Abstraction…

There is only one good thing about hot smoggy days in California — the sunsets are even better! I’ve been wanting to photograph this spot for awhile. Can you guess what it is? The observant viewer can click on the image for a map if you need a clue.

Vanishing Point

From this vantage point the old columns surrounding the ruins of Chichen Itza seem to go on forever.

Bottom of the Stairs

The view of the bottom of some of the 294 steps to the top of the Bunker Hill Monument in Boston. I’m a photographer, but I’m also an engineer so I was impressed with the structure and the patterns inside of the tower.

Church Path

Many people walk this path on the floor of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. I found a moment when it was free to snap a photo.

Spooky Hotel

I have a confession. This hotel really isn’t spooky, I just made it look a little spooky. Taking advantage of some wide angle distortion and a threatening sky gave the Ashland Springs Hotel a completely different look.

Morning Fog

With Halloween right around the corner I wanted to find something a little spooky to post today. The morning I took this it was really foggy and the sunrise looked more like a creepy moon. I love the mild winters in Northern California and these foggy mornings are something that I have to look forward to break up the many days of sunshine we get in a row during the summer!

Walk This Way

Climbing the cables on the way to the top of Halfdome in Yosemite can be a daunting experince. I normally do this 14 mile hike on the weekends when these cables on the final ascent can be very crowded. Recently I did it mid week, and the cables were relatively empty. This allowed me a great view of the cables themselves. This angle is close to the top where the slope in front of you isn’t as steep, but the roll off to the side makes you think twice about what you are doing.

Up the Falls

This is the view up Horestail Falls in the Sierra Nevadas. The hike to get to this point is pretty short, but the scramble to get to the top of the falls can be a bit of a challenge when the trail disappears!

The Valley

A view from the top of Halfdome in Yosemite. One of my favorite day hikes that I have done many times. I had the opportunity to do it again recently with some friends, and it was a great day.

Only One Please

So, you are interested in this barrel, huh? That’s cool, as long as you only want one.
