Fog City

It is unclear (get it?!?) to me why I would expect to see all of the skyline in a city known for fog. What this view lacks in a crisp view of the skyline it makes up for with a mysterious glow in the sky and the traffic below.

A Change in the Weather

One thing I love about the San Francisco Bay Area is the diversity of the surroundings. You can look to the east and see the rolling brown hills, look to the west and see green and trees. In the early morning there is often a layer of clouds that quickly burn off for a day of blue skies. This one spot seemed have all of those different environments at the same time.

Into the Fog

I don’t always give my photos the black and white treatment, but when I do I make sure they are spooky like these trees. What made this hike unique was the mix of sun and fog. I didn’t take many pictures of the sun, but these trees in the fog caught my eye.

A Tree and The City

An old tree stands watch over the fog and ticky tacky houses of San Francisco.

Sutro Tower

I was expecting a view of San Francisco from here, but I wasn’t expecting the dramatic layer of fog below me. It really separated the elevations, and completely blocked out the ocean for most of this hike.

Jumping-Off Point

On a clearer day this rock is a popular place to jump into Lake Michigan. On this cold foggy day there were no brave swimmers, and even the horizon was nowhere to be seen.

Foggy Hillside

The hike around Mt. Tamalpais has many different scenes to it. Dry hillsides, lush rivers, ocean views and forests to name a few. During this particular part of the hike we were surrounded by dry grass and wet fog, an odd combo.

Emerald Bay on a Foggy Day

I took some friends out to Emerald Bay by Lake Tahoe to see the view. The view didn’t show up quite like we were hoping for, but it was still scenic!

Foggy Night

Milwaukee at night. This night was particularly cold with some very low cloud cover. I love the top of 100 East Wisconsin in the background, the fog hanging over the lights on the top adds a very spooky feel to this already cold and still winter night.

The Lighthouse

The lighthouse in Algoma Wisconsin. This was a familiar sight for me growing up, and is something I now associate with going home for the holidays. This was a very cold sunrise, but the steam coming off the lake with the lighthouse is striking.
