City at Night

Cities at night are one of my favorite times for photography. For now I’m staying in and getting my photography fix by going through photos I’ve taken on past trips, like this beautiful night out in Hong Kong last year.

Missing New York

I do love New York, but more than anything I miss being around other people. Looks like it will be awhile before we are back outside among our friends, until then stay inside!

Fog City

It is unclear (get it?!?) to me why I would expect to see all of the skyline in a city known for fog. What this view lacks in a crisp view of the skyline it makes up for with a mysterious glow in the sky and the traffic below.

Fading Fast

The light was changing quickly and I had to move fast. I couldn’t see the horizon in any direction from where I was in the city. When I looked up I realized the shot I was looking for was right above me and my problems were solved.

Pink and Blue

Looking to the east you don’t see the sunset, but the reflecting light in the clouds is just as good when it creates colors like these.

Circles and Rectangles

Cities don’t always have to be square.

Looking Both Ways

Traffic is stopped, time for a quick check both ways and then back to enjoying the music and taking in the sunset.

Cities and Clouds

I’m a sucker for cities. I’m a sucker for clouds. Lisbon is a great city, and was nice enough to provide clouds so you better believe I was out there with my camera! I started most nights on our hotel rooftop, and was able to get this shot without even leaving our temporary home!

A Fine City for Photography

We only spent a short time in Porto, so I wanted to make the most of it. One night I crossed the bridge and made it to the top of the hill after sundown for a panoramic shot of the entire city. You can see it all here, from the oldest parts of town to the near side of the river which is busy with port tasting all day. What you can also see, if you look very closely, are my friends enjoying a lovely meal on the far side of the river. I assumed everything in Europe was open until very late, but by the time I made it down to the restaurants everything was closed. I didn’t get a good dinner, but I got this photo!

Last Light

Some say sunset is the best, but for those with some patience to wait 25 seconds for a long exposure, the time just after sunset can really let the city lights shine.
