At a height of 10,450 feet, the top of Rendezvous Mountain sees a lot of wind and snow during the winter. Everything is covered in white, making for a very monochrome landscape. Even the sturdy trees have a hard time standing up to this kind of weather and are quickly weighed down by the snow.

Dreaming of Snow
It may not feel like winter yet to you, but up to three feet of snow is predicted to fall in the Sierra Nevada over the next few days. That forecast makes me ready to head out in weather like this to enjoy some fresh snow. What are you hoping to do this winter?
ICE COLD!!!
I didn’t get my favorite puffy clouds for this cold sunrise, I got something much better. These branches at the edge of the rocks at Cave Point had survived the spray from some heavy waves, and were now covered in ice. The rising sun lit them up just right to show this crazy translucent pattern. Thankfully I didn’t slide into the icy water while getting this shot!
Winter Eagle Falls
Normally this spot is accessible by car, but with 15 feet of snow falling in the last two weeks, Hwy 89 is closed. The good news is you can still get to the spot if you are willing to snowshoe. It doesn’t even seem like there is a highway there with all the snow, but after snowshoeing a couple miles you are at the top of Eagle Falls looking out over Emerald Bay.
Rock on Top of the World
This huge boulder has a pretty epic view of the Sierra. There’s no telling how many sunny days and storms this rock has seen in its time.
Ice Tunnel
Trains used to scream through this tunnel. Now it looks like a better place for skating with the floor covered in ice and sharp icicles hanging from the ceiling.
The Breakwater
Normally in December this view of the breakwater in Algoma, WI would be covered in ice and snow. On this particular day I liked the way the clouds almost look like they are clearing a path to the lighthouse.
Highland Cow
The shaggy coat of this Highland Cow was equally at home in her native Scotland, or where I found her in chilly Wisconsin.
