Normally I’m more interested in landscapes than birds in flight, but when I knew there would be a bald eagle nearby I rented a big lens (not big enough) and stalked this eagle until I got the shot. Cheers to another great year and to soaring into 2020 with big things ahead of us!
I was lucky enough to see our national bird up close and personal on a trip to my home state of Wisconsin. I like this angle of him, perched on a branch right before he swooped over Lake Michigan looking for fresh fish. You can tell he is wary of me, but also has his eye on the prize in the lake below.
Normally this spot is accessible by car, but with 15 feet of snow falling in the last two weeks, Hwy 89 is closed. The good news is you can still get to the spot if you are willing to snowshoe. It doesn’t even seem like there is a highway there with all the snow, but after snowshoeing a couple miles you are at the top of Eagle Falls looking out over Emerald Bay.
