Christmas Sunrise

I spent Christmas morning with my Dad watching this awesome sunrise. It was the only day that was supposed to be partly cloudy, and there was a light dusting of snow. A perfect moment to take in a sunrise over Lake Michigan!

The Breakwater

Normally in December this view of the breakwater in Algoma, WI would be covered in ice and snow. On this particular day I liked the way the clouds almost look like they are clearing a path to the lighthouse.

The Breakwater

The Breakwater

When I was in Cape Cod I of course wanted to see the two lighthouses out at the very tip of the Cape. I was able to make it to one, and this was the very breakwater I crossed to get there. The view on the way back was stunning!

Mountain Gulls

These gulls look pretty happy by Lake Tahoe. I would be too if I had this view every day!

Sunrise on a New Day

Happy New Year! This picture seemed like a great one for New Year’s Day, just as today is the first day of a new year, this was a great sunrise on a new day. This particular lighthouse is in Algoma Wisconsin and is something that I was vary familiar with growing up, often hearing the fog horn from my house. The ice on the shore was a pretty good indication of temperature I got to enjoy while I was waiting for the sun to rise!

The Lighthouse

The lighthouse in Algoma Wisconsin. This was a familiar sight for me growing up, and is something I now associate with going home for the holidays. This was a very cold sunrise, but the steam coming off the lake with the lighthouse is striking.

The Jellyfish

This jellyfish in Monterey Bay was not alone. While diving here I was surrounded by tons of jellyfish. I have to admit it was a little intimidating at first. After I remembered I was in a thick wet suit due to the cold water, and figured out that I was able to swim around most of them, I became a little more comfortable and was able to get a few shots of these huge animals. They were literally everywhere I turned. Thankfully I didn’t directly encounter any of their stinging tentacles!

Sea Anemone

This was taken in Monterey California, but not at the aquarium.  It was taken close to the breakwater in the ocean.  This was my first dive with a new camera setup, and it was a test dive for an upcoming trip.  I didn’t get a lot of great shots due to conditions, but this one was particularly clear and I really like the way the wavy tentacles turned out.

Monterey Starfish

Diving in Monterey can be pretty dark and cold. I was able to light up this starfish just right to make him pop out from the sandy bottom and seaweed. This was my first dive with a new underwater setup and I was happy with the results
