California Education

The Education Building at UC Davis Medical Center. I’m sure a lot of work goes on in this building, but it looks like a pretty good place to get to work if you ask me!

Fall Vineyard

A recent trip to Healdsburg made a great opportunity for some fall photography! This shot is from Ridge Vineyards. The view from their tasting room of their vines as they lost their leaves with the hills in the backgrounds had some great contrast. Early winter weather in the area had left some snow on nearby mountains, but these were low enough to not have any snow dusting.

Granite Chief

This is the view from the hike up Granite Chief at Squaw Valley. This isn’t the typical spot at the top where you would take in the view of what you will ski down, but I liked the way these trees were windblown on the backside. The whole image has a very cold and snowy feel to it. We have been getting some fantastic early snow here the last few days and I’ve been dreaming of skiing, so I had to post a snow pic!

Stuck in a Glass Box

Taken from the observation deck on the Sears (Willis) Tower in Chicago. These observations areas, which are essentially glass boxes, give you a view of the city in all directions including straight down!

Behind the Falls

This shot is taken from behind one of the many waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park in Oregon. It was a beautiful day, and walking behind this waterfall made a wet Oregon day even wetter. It was worth it for the view!

The Water Tower

One of the many water towers in Sacramento. In the Midwest where I grew up these things look very different, but out here this shape seems to be the norm. I guess I can’t complain as I get my water. This one at sunset certainly had a presence, and I like the way a little light is perched at the top.

Winter Sky in the City

The bare trees in the winter against the constant shape of the buildings in the city. The trees may have leaves, may have snow, or may be just empty branches but the city skyline will always stay the same.

Smudge Pots

These smudge pots in Napa are used to prevent front damage to the grapes. They burn diesel fuel when there is a chance of frost and create a smokey layer that protects the grapes from freezing. This lineup of smudge pots look like they have been around awhile, and maybe even used for BB gun target practice!

Winter Trees

The leaves are starting to fall off of the trees and soon they will all look like this. I liked the way the outer trees framed this shot, and some smaller trees in the middle let the sun just poke through.

Rock Circles

A circle of rocks, as seen from the top of Halfdome in Yosemite, CA. The hike up was grueling, and the view at the end was awesome. Someone else had decided to commemorate their hike by making this design out of rocks they had found. I took the opportunity to capture it.
