This slug was really into this rock. I almost stepped on him on a trail, but after I saw him I’m not sure how I was almost able to miss him. He was huge, and slimy. There was a crazy orange stripe down each side of his body that really stood out. I’m pretty sure he was going to eat this whole rock if I had watched him long enough.

Slug Eats Rock
Agate Beach
A wave breaks on Agate Beach. This beach is part of Patrick’s Point State Park in Northern California. We spent a few hours here collecting rocks and just walking down this beautiful dark beach. This might not be a true black sand beach, but the darker sand looked pretty cool against the ocean.
The Water Tower
One of the many water towers in Sacramento. In the Midwest where I grew up these things look very different, but out here this shape seems to be the norm. I guess I can’t complain as I get my water. This one at sunset certainly had a presence, and I like the way a little light is perched at the top.
Fall Fence Line
This old fence along a meadow in Tahoe has a perfect fall feeling to it. The colors weren’t at their peak but there was some nice contrast between the trees and the meadow.
Rock Circles
A circle of rocks, as seen from the top of Halfdome in Yosemite, CA. The hike up was grueling, and the view at the end was awesome. Someone else had decided to commemorate their hike by making this design out of rocks they had found. I took the opportunity to capture it.
Mud, Grass and Grapes
This photo taken at Karmere Vineyards near Plymouth CA looks more like a painting to me. I liked the way the mud was right next to the grass, and the dark clouds looming in the background.
The California State Capitol
The California State Capitol as seen on a clear afternoon. Tomorrow is election day, so this is your reminder to go out and vote if you want to have some voice in what goes on inside here!
Up the Sundial
A view of the main part of the huge sundial that is the business end of the Sundial Bridge in Redding. From this angle, it looks more like a harp than a bridge. As you can see it was cloudy, so I wasn’t able to tell the time with the bridge, but I was able to get some cool effects from the sky.
Spinning Chairs
Today is the last day of the California State Fair, so here is one final image of a previous fair. I was glad I was able to make the chairs appear still while the background swirled all around. It was difficult to shoot this while on the ride, but I was able to make it work and the result came out exactly as I wanted it.
Rides and Explosions
One of the last photos I took at the state fair was also one of my favorites. I wanted to be able to catch the big wheel and the fireworks in one frame, and the only way to do that was to be just outside of the gates. There were other fireworks that were larger, but I dig the way these white streaks mimic the spokes of the ferris wheel itself.
