Spring Is Coming Back

It is starting to feel a lot like spring here recently. I hiked this hillside awhile ago, but it reminds me of today with all of the green from the rain and new growth in the trees.

Dripping Rock

The limestone rocks of Phang Nga Bay have two neat party tricks. They can both stick sharply out of the water and also look like they are dripping back into the water as they are eroded away by the bright green water below.

Christmas in the Rotunda

To see this tree you only have to take a few steps away from the crowds of Union Square. The tree itself is huge, but all the intricate details of the surrounding room really make it feel extra festive.

Misty Mount Rainier

A very wet and misty day set the mood for my trip to Mount Rainier. No big views of the volcano, but I quite liked the clouds and fog that were everywhere.

The Falls Below the Bridge

This angle of Christine Falls is not the one you normally see. I took this from the bridge very close to the falls, where the water drops straight down below you only a few feet away. There is a viewpoint down the road, but I decided to get up to the edge of the bridge, and shoot it top to bottom in a vertical panorama. This distorts the height of the falls and makes it feel like it is snaking through the rocks in front of you.

Officially Fall

A Change in the Weather

One thing I love about the San Francisco Bay Area is the diversity of the surroundings. You can look to the east and see the rolling brown hills, look to the west and see green and trees. In the early morning there is often a layer of clouds that quickly burn off for a day of blue skies. This one spot seemed have all of those different environments at the same time.

Pirates Cove

As you hike through these hills along the Pacific there are lots of ups and downs. This is one of the steeper ravines that you cross, known as Pirates Cove. The pirates seem to like this place and so do I!

Lupine in the Spring Thaw

In Iceland you expect to see ice and snow, but it is actually much more green and full of life than you might think. These colorful lupine were here to add some great contrast to the usual landscape of running water and snow.
