The Rock Steals the Show

This night featured some pretty great light, but the real stars of the show were all of the layers in this rock pinnacle. The texture and different shades of orange really stood out against the evening sky.

Undersea Tree

This christmas tree isn’t a tree at all, it’s a worm living under this coral. It will keep its delicate blue crowns exposed like this to catch food and breathe until it detects something nearby, and then will quickly retract into the coral. This one let me get close enough for a shot with my camera before deciding I was too close and going away to hide.

I’d Travel All the Way Here for the Anemones

I love the sea, I love the fish, but I’d go on an entire dive trip just to watch the anemones slowly wave in the current.

Dripping Rock

The limestone rocks of Phang Nga Bay have two neat party tricks. They can both stick sharply out of the water and also look like they are dripping back into the water as they are eroded away by the bright green water below.

Acrophobia

Hong Kong is an extremely vertical city, with many opportunities to really test out if you definitely do, or definitely do not have a fear of heights.

Richelieu Rock

One of my best dives in Thailand was at Richelieu Rock. This reef has a crazy amount of life, both fish and corals, and in this spot they all swirl together to make a very busy but very intricate pattern. The rock itself barely sticks out of the water, and is pretty far from other islands. This isolation must make it a safe place for all this life to exist.

… and into the sky.

Marin Sunset

Marin has many great spots to catch a sunset. From here you are up above the Golden Gate Bridge, and get a big view of the bay before you with San Francisco in the background. This was a perfect night, with clear weather and just a few wispy clouds to light up the sky.

Fading Fast

The light was changing quickly and I had to move fast. I couldn’t see the horizon in any direction from where I was in the city. When I looked up I realized the shot I was looking for was right above me and my problems were solved.
