Preparing to Stick the Landing

I will have an opportunity to photograph some birds in the next few months, so I decided to get some practice in and catch some of the last few hummingbirds of the season. This fountain is a known place to spot them, and I was able to catch this guy coming in for a landing and a bath.

Pink and Orange

This moth was so interested in the flower, he didn’t even notice me sticking my lens in his face.

Sedona Sunrise

After hiking the Grand Canyon the day before it was difficult to motivate for this sunrise shot. I was worried the sky would be covered in clouds, but I was lucky and there were just enough to make the sunrise even better.

The Fastest Easter Bunny

I saw this version of the Easter Bunny during the Schlittentag, or German Sledding Day, race at Alpine Meadows this weekend. His homemade carrot sled didn’t stay on the course for more than a few seconds after I took this, but he deserved points for style!

Sunrise Over Somewhere

I’m not sure exactly where I was flying over, but I knew there was a sunrise and that I needed to capture it.

Rose

I was in the backyard taking photos of the very last rose left at the end of summer. I thought the photos would be OK but typical. I was so intent on keeping the shot in focus I didn’t realize I wasn’t the only one enjoying that very flower!

San Gervasio

The amazing Cathedral of San Gervasio in Valladolid Mexico occupied much of my time on my visit. Who wouldn’t be taken by the structure and the dramatic sky in the background? I arrived just in time to get a couple of shots before a huge bus pulled up and parked itself right in front and people were swarming everywhere. I guess timing is everything!

Valladolid

A quick walk around Valladolid was anything but boring. The brightly colored buildings, the old cathedral in the distance, the mopeds everywhere. I loved it, and it was hard to leave.

Couple

An unknown couple at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. They were having their picture taken by a photographer with a very long lens very far away. The bright pink umbrella got my attention and I was able to get this anonymous shot without getting in the way. Success!

Tahoe Winter Sunset

On a hike out after a day of back country skiing, I was rewarded with this intense sunset. The mountains provided the perfect venue to take it all in and relax for a minute before heading back to the cabin. What a great day!
