Iris

A sure sign of spring, the flowers are blooming!

Wires Over City

Sometimes even the buses have to turn around and go back to where they came from. Such is the purpose of these wires in San Francisco. They provide electricity to the buses, and this is the end of one particular route, so the bus makes a u-turn and follows the wires back. I liked the way the center of the U stood out against the sunset that was just starting to happen.

Just a Bird and a Sunset

This big fella was hanging out on the Pismo Beach Pier as I was walking by. He didn’t seem to notice me, but I’m pretty sure he was nonchalantly looking for a hand out. I quickly snapped his photo before he expected too much of me and went about my business

Abstract Flower

I really wanted to make this a two tone image, so I isolated the flower as much as I could to give it a more abstract feel.

Fiery Tree

I saw a sunset with some clouds and thought it was pretty good, but not great. Then I adding this dark and leafless tree in the foreground with some rough bark textures to offset the bright sky, and I liked the sunset a lot more!

A Church by the Bay

There is an incredibly scenic and little known viewpoint in San Francisco called Tank Hill. This particular view just after sunset really highlights St. Ignatius Church, but I happen to like the layering of the San Francisco Bay and hills in the background. If you look close enough, you can even see the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge on the left.

The Water Tower

One of the many water towers in Sacramento. In the Midwest where I grew up these things look very different, but out here this shape seems to be the norm. I guess I can’t complain as I get my water. This one at sunset certainly had a presence, and I like the way a little light is perched at the top.

Grand Opening

This is the Croker Art Museum as it was seen in Sacramento on its grand opening on 10/10/10.  The building itself is pretty cool, and the lights really gave it a unique look against the black night sky.

Pink and White with a Side of Green

I loved the different colors at the farmers market, and I especially liked the way that these two different colors of radishes looked next to each other.

Mt. Shasta Sunset

On a drive home I found a good overlook towards Mt. Shasta around sunset. As a big fan of snow and the mountians, it was great to see traces of snow on the far away peak. I had to stop a few times to find a spot with a clear enough line of sight to get this shot. I thought about trying to keep the power poles out of the frame, but decided that leaving them in add a little extra detail to the photo.
