There probably isn’t much trick or treating going on at this old cemetery…
Eastern Sierra Fall
My first fall trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada in fall was a great success. The leaves were in full color and the weather was fantastic. One large tree standing above the rest got my attention. I’m an engineer, and I solved the problem of the sun being in my face by creating a sun star.
Endeavour
This morning’s final flight of the Space Shuttle Endeavour included this Sacramento flyover. The impressive crowd came prepared with cameras and binoculars. The Endeavour has now landed in Los Angeles, home to the California Science Center which will soon be the shuttle’s permanent home.
Lake Margaret Summit
The hike to Lake Margaret is a great way to escape the heat of the valley. I extended the hike by taking the short scamper to a peak above the lake to get this panorama. The sun shining down through the clouds made the Tahoe sky come alive. It is always worth the extra effort for the view from the top!
This Old Tree
Even in the city of trees, it is rare to find one that has been standing for 126 years. Sadly this one is sick and needs to come down. If any Sacramento tree fans want to see it one more time be sure to swing by 18th and Capitol before Aug. 22nd.
Shoo Fly
I’ve recently had a few unwelcome visitors in the house. Normally I wouldn’t find a fly that interesting, but this one was slowing down in his old age and did a good job of posing. I offered him one photo op before sending him to the trash can.
