Moving Water

This was taken in a year when there was more water in California to keep rivers flowing and plants growing. Bassi Falls had plenty of snowmelt from above to create many tiny waterfalls over the granite.

Moving Water

Late Spring Snow

It snowed in Tahoe at the start of the Memorial Day weekend this year. Given the low amount of snowfall this past winter, I didn’t have high expectations for the waterfalls. On a hike above Wrights Lake I discovered a few perfect inches of snow around Silver Creek and just enough of it was melting to create some great little waterfalls!

The Swoop

I can’t take all the credit for this one, a friend pointed out the way this water was curved on a hike at Squaw Valley. I took the liberty of playing with the harsh light and shadows to help bring out the curve of water.

Rushing

The top portion of South Fork Silver Creek Falls. I made sure to take a low angle on this shot to get as close as I could to the cool rushing water.

The Teacups

I hiked the South Fork of Silver Creek in the Sierras today, and of course my camera was along for the ride. The water is high right now due to the huge amount of snow we have from last winter. This section of descending pools is called the teacups. The rushing water wasn’t very tea like, but if I try hard enough I can visualize layers of little teacups spilling into one another.

Behind the Falls

This shot is taken from behind one of the many waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park in Oregon. It was a beautiful day, and walking behind this waterfall made a wet Oregon day even wetter. It was worth it for the view!

Salt Creek Falls

I was not looking for Salt Creek Falls.  I was planning a detour after getting rained out of a night of camping.  This gave us some extra time to get to the next spot and I was looking for things to see.  A small sign for Salt Creek Falls was all that it took to get me to stop, and I was greeted by the second highest waterfall in Oregon at 286 ft.

Up the Falls

This is the view up Horestail Falls in the Sierra Nevadas. The hike to get to this point is pretty short, but the scramble to get to the top of the falls can be a bit of a challenge when the trail disappears!

Rainbow

There was not a lot of water flowing over Vernal Falls in Yosemite on this particular fall day, but there was enough to make a nice rainbow at the bottom.

The Falls

On the south side of Crater Lake I found this unexpected little waterfall called Vidae Falls which was surrounded by wildflowers. I was here later in the day when it was overcast, so this little waterfall was almost as good as the lake view itself.
