I’m from Wisconsin, and I haven’t shown my home state any love recently so here goes. I stopped the car to take this, but no one else driving by realized what the big fuss was about. There will always be a place in my heart for Wisconsin cheese and the cows responsible for it, and I needed to pay Bessie a tribute with a spot on the blog.

Going Green
November sometimes means watching the landscape go from green to white. Here, the rain allows what was brown to turn to green. I hiked Mount Tamalpais to get my fill of the lush foliage that grows in the canyons.
Preparing to Stick the Landing
I will have an opportunity to photograph some birds in the next few months, so I decided to get some practice in and catch some of the last few hummingbirds of the season. This fountain is a known place to spot them, and I was able to catch this guy coming in for a landing and a bath.
Walk Through the Bamboo
This place is green and serene. Hakone is full of peaceful gardens, and this bamboo forest is one of the highlights.
Stingray
On a recent snorkeling trip I ran into this stingray. He looks menacing, but was more interested in hiding on the bottom than he was in messing with me.
Jumping-Off Point
On a clearer day this rock is a popular place to jump into Lake Michigan. On this cold foggy day there were no brave swimmers, and even the horizon was nowhere to be seen.
Return From Old Baldy
A boardwalk makes the trip back down from Old Baldy a lot less sandy. As a kid I made the trek up this 93 foot high sand dune many times. Even though I’ve summited much higher places on earth since, this one will always have special memories.
