End of the Line

I almost expected to see a ghost train while on this spooky old set of railroad tracks, but I did not. Instead I saw where trains used to cross the San Francisco Bay, but not much else happens today.

Kite Over Haystack

When I first got to Haystack Rock in Oregon I was disappointed there were so many people on the beach. I thought they would just get in my photo, but one person helped out and flew a kite to add some nice color to the sky.

A Storm Rolls In

The weather can change quickly in Costa Rica. I only had a few minutes to capture the sky like this. Moments before it was completely overcast, and not long after it started raining and kept raining all night.

The Breakwater

Normally in December this view of the breakwater in Algoma, WI would be covered in ice and snow. On this particular day I liked the way the clouds almost look like they are clearing a path to the lighthouse.

Old and Older

An unused control tower, and an unused hangar. Two structures that are out of service, but the contrast between them is quite unique!

Hangar One

Hangar One is a sight I see every day from my office, but the public is rarely allowed inside. NASA Ames recently had an open house for their 75th anniversary, and one of the best attractions was going inside this old hangar. With the outside shell removed long ago, interesting angles for photography were everywhere.

The City

Some cities just have a certain style. I bet you recognize this one without me telling you where it is.

Star Trails

I spent a long, cold hour and 38 minutes by Donner Lake in April to get this shot. The process consisted of continuously taking photos and later combining them to show the the stars moving across the night sky. I also missed five and a half minutes when my camera stopped, creating what looks like a break in the trails. At first I didn’t like this, but the effect is growing on me. Multiple trains passing through gave the foreground an added bonus of a streak of light through the mountain. I’m happy with this first attempt and excited to try it again!

Trail to a Hole in the Clouds

I just wanted to go for a hike on a nice spring day, but this trail looked like it wanted to take me all the way up into the sky.
