Capitol Christmas

The Christmas Tree as seen in 2008 in front of the State Capitol of California. I have a Christmas party tonight so I thought this photo was appropriate!

Hummingbird

I spent a long time standing in the rain to get this shot. There were plenty of hummingbirds zipping back and forth, but they were all so fast it was hard to stay focused on one long enough to get a few shots before it was gone. I like the way this one turned out, and the way the spot on the neck of the hummingbird matches the plants.

Live Flower, Dead Flower

Actually, they are both pretty close to death, but one is certainly in better shape than the other. The opposite position of the two makes for a cool contrast.

Duck Flower

These tiny purple flowers looked more like a duck than a flower to me. I was able to isolate it from the background enough to really make each little piece of fuzz on the edge stand out and make it look much more like the duck that I saw in it.

Purple

Taken at the farmer’s market in San Francisco.  Unfortunately I don’t remember what this was, but close up it looked pretty crazy with the contrasting purple on green.

Laser Show

The Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento has been closed for some time to allow for a new addition to be built to the museum.  I went on opening night when they had the old and new parts of the building open and hosted some bands and a laser show in their new courtyard.  It is a pretty interesting space, with classic architecture on one side opposed to the new ultra modern building right next to it.  I’m excited to check out some of the upcoming events that they are planning to hold here.  The opening night had some great lighting that led to some cool photo opportunities.

Lavender

This lavender smelled great, it almost made me forget that I could also have wine at the great winery where I found this!

Yellow on Purple

These flowers were very tiny but had great details. I really like the look of the little buds bursting out of the center.

Opening

The first wave of buds on the hydrangea had just started to bloom, and there were plenty of closed buds ready to follow their lead.

Spheres

The vines at my house produce these spheres that look like berries, but are probably flower buds. They change color as they mature, and you can often see many different colors at once.
