Rushing Water

This may look like a relaxing place to hang out by a waterfall, but it was not. Standing here meant I was exposed to the full spray of the waterfall. I had to clean my lens and immediately take the shot before it had water drops all over it again. I could have taken this from the side, as other photographers did after walking by me and looking at me like I was crazy, but I had to have that big fallen tree sticking right out at me.

Moving Water

This was taken in a year when there was more water in California to keep rivers flowing and plants growing. Bassi Falls had plenty of snowmelt from above to create many tiny waterfalls over the granite.

Budding

Spring will be here soon, new buds are popping up everywhere.

From the Air

The flight from San Jose to Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula was booked as a simple way to get from point A to point B. Views like this meant it could have just as easily been a sightseeing trip!

Palms in the Night

Some fast moving clouds meant that I got to have some fun photographing these tall palm trees. The colors were crazy with the night sky and the different colors of light coming from houses nearby.

Two Snacks

Some people don’t find banana slugs very interesting, but I like the chance to practice my macro work. I watched this guy eat a leaf for awhile before noticing he wasn’t the only one having a snack. There is also some type of bug that looks to be biting the slug!

Squirrel Monkey

I saw lots of monkeys in Costa Rica, Capuchin, Howler and Squirrel Monkeys. Some of them were even nice photos, but most were not that unique. A trip to a restaurant with a patio that was high up in the trees meant a different angle. The monkeys were up in a tree but still below where I was, and looking up at me instead of the other way around.

Ornament

This ornament was originally my dad’s. It was designed to hold a light that is bigger than the ones on my tree, but I liked the way it shines and made it work. Merry Christmas!

Red Eyed Tree Frog

I just got back from Costa Rica, and I hate to admit it but I took way too many photos. A few made it worth the effort. It rained during the day which we didn’t appreciate at the time, but at night it meant that this tree frog was out and about. A local showed us where to look. It took some searching around in the dark, actually more listening than looking, but there he was waiting. I found what I was looking for, I hope he found the insects he was looking for.

Sutro Tower

I was expecting a view of San Francisco from here, but I wasn’t expecting the dramatic layer of fog below me. It really separated the elevations, and completely blocked out the ocean for most of this hike.
