I was the only one in the group brave enough to summit Eagle Tower on this cold winter afternoon. At ground level you are surrounded by dormant trees, but at the top you get a glimpse of the sun.

Lake Margaret Summit
The hike to Lake Margaret is a great way to escape the heat of the valley. I extended the hike by taking the short scamper to a peak above the lake to get this panorama. The sun shining down through the clouds made the Tahoe sky come alive. It is always worth the extra effort for the view from the top!
Sedona Sunrise
After hiking the Grand Canyon the day before it was difficult to motivate for this sunrise shot. I was worried the sky would be covered in clouds, but I was lucky and there were just enough to make the sunrise even better.
Sunrise Hike
I started the descent into the Grand Canyon in near total darkness. That wasn’t much fun, but it did mean that I was able to see the sunrise from many angles on the way down!
Late Spring Snow
It snowed in Tahoe at the start of the Memorial Day weekend this year. Given the low amount of snowfall this past winter, I didn’t have high expectations for the waterfalls. On a hike above Wrights Lake I discovered a few perfect inches of snow around Silver Creek and just enough of it was melting to create some great little waterfalls!
Over the Bridge
I’ve driven through the tunnel on Yerba Buena Island many times, but never stopped to check it out. When I finally did, I learned there really isn’t that much there except a lot of “No Trespassing” signs and abandoned buildings. I did find this vantage point in a precarious spot overlooking the Bay Bridge. It wasn’t easy to hang out there very long, but the view of San Francisco was worth it!
Sunrise Over Somewhere
I’m not sure exactly where I was flying over, but I knew there was a sunrise and that I needed to capture it.
The Stevenson
Call it the Stevenson Expressway, call it Interstate 55, but I call it a nice photo from the air. I was in Chicago and caught this view on my flight out. Of course I was hoping for a strange and unlikely route back across the city skyline from Midway, but that didn’t happen. Then I was hoping for some beautiful light from sunset that happened a few moments before this, but they turned the plane around and went back to the gate to pick up a passenger (honestly!) burning my precious time. In the end it all worked out, and I got some nice lighting in the sky and an interesting interchange below.
City on a Tilt
Sometimes I like things just a little off kilter. In this case, Capitol Mall in Sacramento at night!
The Split
When I saw this bridge I knew I had to stop. I like the way the old train bridge is reaching up into the cloudy sky, while the tracks run off in different directions below.
