Out to Sea from Koh Phi Phi

Taken from onboard the boat taking us away from this beautiful island, and on to the next stop. We were hard to miss with this bright red deck against the water.

Bean at Sunrise

To say I’m a big fan of Cloud Gate in Millenium Park would be an understatement. There are so many opportunities for photos around this sculpture. I like this early morning shot because no one else was around, and the sun was just starting to light up the city.

From the Air

The flight from San Jose to Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula was booked as a simple way to get from point A to point B. Views like this meant it could have just as easily been a sightseeing trip!

A Storm Rolls In

The weather can change quickly in Costa Rica. I only had a few minutes to capture the sky like this. Moments before it was completely overcast, and not long after it started raining and kept raining all night.

The Breakwater

Normally in December this view of the breakwater in Algoma, WI would be covered in ice and snow. On this particular day I liked the way the clouds almost look like they are clearing a path to the lighthouse.

Red Eyed Tree Frog

I just got back from Costa Rica, and I hate to admit it but I took way too many photos. A few made it worth the effort. It rained during the day which we didn’t appreciate at the time, but at night it meant that this tree frog was out and about. A local showed us where to look. It took some searching around in the dark, actually more listening than looking, but there he was waiting. I found what I was looking for, I hope he found the insects he was looking for.

Whale Shark

A picture cannot capture how large a whale shark is. To swim next to one of these animals is simply something else, and I’ve never experienced something else like it.

Going Home

You can stay out on the water all day, but some days you end up racing the sun home.

Fireworm

Like most things in the ocean, this guy doesn’t like to be touched. His stinging white bristles are flared out since he noticed me, but it wasn’t too difficult to avoid all 1.5 inches of him. I spent at least 10 minutes to get this shot and I’m pretty happy with the result. He was cooperative, but the current moved him around enough to make getting this shot a time-consuming process.

Waxing Crescent Moon

I knew this there would be a crescent moon, but I didn’t know I’d get a nice sunset to go along with it.
