The Swoop

I can’t take all the credit for this one, a friend pointed out the way this water was curved on a hike at Squaw Valley. I took the liberty of playing with the harsh light and shadows to help bring out the curve of water.

Fuzzy Horizon

I miss the Oregon coast. I really like the way the horizon fades away into a fuzz and then into the sky in this shot. A great day for a drive down the coast!

Rocky Shores

Calm tide pools nearby, crashing waves and jagged rocks reaching up out of the ocean in the distance.

Mountain Moss

Brightly colored yellow and orange moss covers the rocks on top of Round Top in the Sierra Nevadas. Not exactly what I was expecting to find at the end of this long winter hike, but it certainly made the cold rocks more interesting.

Cenote Divers

This was taken while scuba diving in a cenote in Mexico. A cenote is an underground cave with fresh water flowing through it. They can continue on for miles and miles underground with occasional rocky cave like openings. There isn’t much in the way of wildlife down here, but cenote diving makes up for that with the interesting rock formations and effects from the light that you get from diving in a dark cave. This was my first time diving in a cenote and I was very impressed! What you see in the top of the frame is the surface of the water sending light ripples down into the water below.

Not My Tracks

Not today anyway. The snow was too good where I was without hiking to go for these lines, but they sure did look pretty from down below.

Tree on Beach

Most of the beaches I saw in Oregon were pretty clean, but this one was particularly neat and free of anything other than sand. Except of course for this one washed up tree.

Sunrise on a New Day

Happy New Year! This picture seemed like a great one for New Year’s Day, just as today is the first day of a new year, this was a great sunrise on a new day. This particular lighthouse is in Algoma Wisconsin and is something that I was vary familiar with growing up, often hearing the fog horn from my house. The ice on the shore was a pretty good indication of temperature I got to enjoy while I was waiting for the sun to rise!

All Beach, No Sunrise

I had high hopes of catching the one day a year where there is a clear, fog-less sunrise from China Beach in San Francisco. As you can tell I must have picked the wrong day. I decided to make the best of the early morning and was able to get some cool shots of the beach in the fog.

A Rock With a View

This beach near Cambria had some rocks with a pretty great view of the ocean. The breaking waves by these cool rocks kept me entertained with my camera for quite awhile!
