California Fall

I always say I miss the seasons here in California as we don’t get the same intensity of trees changing color as I’m used to. This time I didn’t have to go too far to find a taste of fall, a few trees in the Santa Cruz Mountains were participating in the fall season.

Hangar One

Hangar One is a sight I see every day from my office, but the public is rarely allowed inside. NASA Ames recently had an open house for their 75th anniversary, and one of the best attractions was going inside this old hangar. With the outside shell removed long ago, interesting angles for photography were everywhere.

Going Home

You can stay out on the water all day, but some days you end up racing the sun home.

Preparing to Stick the Landing

I will have an opportunity to photograph some birds in the next few months, so I decided to get some practice in and catch some of the last few hummingbirds of the season. This fountain is a known place to spot them, and I was able to catch this guy coming in for a landing and a bath.

Fireworm

Like most things in the ocean, this guy doesn’t like to be touched. His stinging white bristles are flared out since he noticed me, but it wasn’t too difficult to avoid all 1.5 inches of him. I spent at least 10 minutes to get this shot and I’m pretty happy with the result. He was cooperative, but the current moved him around enough to make getting this shot a time-consuming process.

Waxing Crescent Moon

I knew this there would be a crescent moon, but I didn’t know I’d get a nice sunset to go along with it.

Walk Through the Bamboo

This place is green and serene. Hakone is full of peaceful gardens, and this bamboo forest is one of the highlights.

Backyard

This isn’t my actual backyard, but it was for one great weekend in Eastern Washington. Not a bad place to spend some time and take in a few sunsets!

Stingray

On a recent snorkeling trip I ran into this stingray. He looks menacing, but was more interested in hiding on the bottom than he was in messing with me.

Pink and Orange

This moth was so interested in the flower, he didn’t even notice me sticking my lens in his face.
