A Warming Sunset

The sun sets through the haze above San Francisco. These warm colors could be almost anywhere until you realize that the Golden Gate Bridge is out there between the layers.

A Chilling Sunrise

Sunrise photos take work. Sometime it is just getting up when you don’t want to, but this time it was standing around in some chilly weather waiting for the sun to show up that took effort. The clouds were low on the horizon so it took a little extra time for the sun to find a gap in the clouds and light up the icicles just right.

Greenest of Green

It has been feeling a lot like an early summer recently, so what better way to celebrate than showing off this wall of intense green in Fern Canyon?!?

A Wolf in the Not So Wild

I was very close to this wolf, but was also pretty safe from him at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center. These particular wolves can’t be released into the wild for various reasons, but can be observed quite close up. I was not enjoying the very cold weather, but this wolf didn’t seem to mind. We could both appreciate the falling snow, for me because it meant I was going skiing the next day, and the wolf just seemed to like having snow on his nose.

From There to Here

Hiking in Pinnacles National Park leads to many great views such as this panorama taken from the center of the park. The climb up here has some interesting steps carved in the rock along the way, and once you complete those you can look back on the trail that got you here in the center of the frame.

I See You

Ski trips for me usually combine two things I enjoy, skiing and photography. On this trip to Jackson both the skiing and the photos were excellent. This moose, who stationed himself outside our house and kept an eye on us the whole time, was happy to pose for photos as long as you didn’t get too close. I’m hoping the next trip will have both great skiing and great photos!

Receding Waves

The tide went out, the sun went down. I was left on a cold dark beach. It was all worth it to get to see the sun sneaking behind these rocks over the ocean!

Southwest Sunset

I came to the Southwest on this trip to ski, but I stayed for the sunsets. This view with Pueblo Peak in the background was particularly spectacular, and absolutely better than the skiing!

ICE COLD!!!

I didn’t get my favorite puffy clouds for this cold sunrise, I got something much better. These branches at the edge of the rocks at Cave Point had survived the spray from some heavy waves, and were now covered in ice. The rising sun lit them up just right to show this crazy translucent pattern. Thankfully I didn’t slide into the icy water while getting this shot!

Looking up to Crazy Skies

Wide angles can do interesting things. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. From this angle it looks as if Westminster Abbey is reaching up to some imaginary point way up high in the puffy clouds.
