The Milwaukee River at night! I don’t make it back to my homeland of Wisconsin very often in the summer. On this trip I was able to spend a night in Milwaukee with some friends, and had to check out this part of downtown. It was a cool clear night, and the lights shone perfectly off of the water. I didn’t have a tripod so I had to make the best of it by using a railing and some steady hands, and everything worked out just fine!

A Tree Between Two Roads
This tree looks lonely, it has no friends to hang out with. Instead it just has the concrete and traffic to keep it company.
The Goal is Within Sight!
The hike to Round Top starts by going through a wooded area. You eventually break out to where you can finally see the top of the peak, your destination for the day, off in the distance. From this point it felt pretty far away but we all knew it would be worth it! I really like the way the trail and string of skiers extends out toward the peak, reaching out for it.
Top of Round Top
I had a great weekend. I spent one day back country skiing on a peak called Round Top in the Sierras with a great group of friends. I spent the next day skiing at a resort. There wasn’t much new snow which is uncharacteristic for this time of year around here, but the hike, view and overall experience were amazing. This was one of my favorite views from the hike. It was taken from the top of Round Top just before we began our descent. The true Kirkwood fans out there will recognize the backside of the resort in the right third of the image.
Not My Tracks
Not today anyway. The snow was too good where I was without hiking to go for these lines, but they sure did look pretty from down below.
Just Below the Clouds
This is my lucky 200th post! Why is it lucky? It is because if I’m lucky, by posting a picture of snow for such a milestone for my blog, I will get more snow in Tahoe! Happy 200th post to me!
This was taken on one of those amazing days at Squaw Valley. The cloud level kept rising and falling. Sometimes we were in the clouds, sometimes they were just above us and everything seemed perfectly clear.
Sunset Clouds
As the sun went down the layers in these clouds kept changing from white to orange to dark blue as they went completely into the shadow. I think I hit the shutter at the exact right moment to capture all of the shades!
Turtle Turtle Turtle!!!
The sea turtle is a very majestic creature. It can also be quite intimidating when you see one close up, and watch it use its powerful jaws to chew a huge clump of grass right in front of you. This was taken in Akumal in Mexico in a spot where people came to snorkel just to see the turtles. They were everywhere. The younger ones were a little skittish when you got close, but the older ones could really care less if you were nearby or not. This particular one let me dive down and hang out with him long enough to get plenty of good photos.
Going Home is Hard to Do
This was a familiar scene for me last week, and it was a hard one to leave. I love winters in California, they are mild in Sacramento with fantastic mountains and skiing nearby, but after a week on the beach in Mexico I’m having a hard time adjusting to my regularly scheduled life.
