Some sunsets have clouds, some sunsets are yellow. This one has a crazy shade of purple and a joshua tree. I used a flash and a green gel to light the tree up in a color that offset the sunset. It worked even better than I expected!
By the Tracks Again
I was actually travelling by car when I took this, but these tracks going toward Mt. Shasta meant I had to make a pit stop. It was a hot day after a lot of driving, and part of me wished I was up on top of Shasta where there is still snow.
The Pea
This little guy is about the size of a pea, and very hard to find in the great big ocean. This juvenile trunkfish will grow up to be something completely different, but now he is basically a floating pea. He also doesn’t like to hold still very long to have his picture taken! I saw him while diving recently on the West End Wall in Roatan.
Crater Lake Sunset
I’m not going to lie, I was hoping for some big puffy clouds and a classic sunset when I was driving up to Crater Lake. What I got was a clear night, with a side of forest fires. The fires are horrible, but they did mean there was one moment when the sun left these streaks in the sky just after sunset.
Flying Lady
The old Cadillac was very cool, but I wanted to focus on just the hood ornament. Going for a macro shot meant I could really make it look like she was flying.
Orange at Night
First came the rain, then the sun went down, and then the sky turned a crazy shade of orange. This might just be the top level of a parking garage, but the combination of the reflective concrete, the orange sky and a plane flying in the distance make this a fun shot.
Centerline
I went to Oregon for the nature, but sometimes the man made objects are just as interesting. This bridge was old, but the asphalt was new and the centerline was a nice complement to the bright green trees above.
The Elusive Hummingbird
Often chased but rarely captured, a hummingbird is one of those photos I tend to obsess over. This time I was able to be close enough and get the light right to capture the colors of this crazy little bird.
