Dreaming of Snow

It may not feel like winter yet to you, but up to three feet of snow is predicted to fall in the Sierra Nevada over the next few days. That forecast makes me ready to head out in weather like this to enjoy some fresh snow. What are you hoping to do this winter?

A Trail to a Tree

A rainy day and all things are green. Spring time means everything is growing and bright green on the rolling hills of Henry Coe State Park.

Greenest of Green

It has been feeling a lot like an early summer recently, so what better way to celebrate than showing off this wall of intense green in Fern Canyon?!?

From There to Here

Hiking in Pinnacles National Park leads to many great views such as this panorama taken from the center of the park. The climb up here has some interesting steps carved in the rock along the way, and once you complete those you can look back on the trail that got you here in the center of the frame.

Receding Waves

The tide went out, the sun went down. I was left on a cold dark beach. It was all worth it to get to see the sun sneaking behind these rocks over the ocean!

Keep Climbing in 2017

This steep set of stairs on the high and narrow trail in Pinnacles National Park is a good reminder to keep on climbing up and up in the new year!

Welcome to 2017!

I started off the new year with a great hike at a place that is close to home but new to me, Pinnacles National Park. An afternoon hike led us from green valleys to high peaks, through talus caves and right over these rock pinnacles where it looked like there couldn’t possibly be a trail at all. A great adventure to start a new year!

Coastal Succulent

Succulents are all the rage for low maintenance gardens these days, but I’ve never seen one with quite this color combo before! A quick hike at Point Lobos State Park led me to some rocks covered with this stuff. I focused close to it to highlight the contrasting red and blue colors.

Rolling Hills

The redwoods generally steal the show at Mt. Tam, but these rolling hills are what caught my eye. Different layers of grassy hills make their way to the ocean for this awesome sunset.

Water on the Moon

I didn’t really discover water on the moon, but if there was the Salton Sea is what it would look like. The ground is dry and dusty, no one else is around and it is smelly. Is the moon smelly? Probably not, but I digress. I stopped the car only a few times in our drive through this area, hopped out for a quick photo of this interesting place and then was quick to get on our way.
