Mountain Moss

Brightly colored yellow and orange moss covers the rocks on top of Round Top in the Sierra Nevadas. Not exactly what I was expecting to find at the end of this long winter hike, but it certainly made the cold rocks more interesting.

Radio Towers

The radio towers on top of Alpine Meadows. This scene is a short hike from the top of the Cornice Six lift, and is on your way to much of the better terrain that the mountain has to offer.

Snow Study #2

A beautiful evergreen tree offset from the bright sky, with a nice trimming of new fallen snow.

Snow Study #1

After an overnight snowfall in Lake Tahoe these branches were overweighted with snow, creating a cool pattern.

Cenote Divers

This was taken while scuba diving in a cenote in Mexico. A cenote is an underground cave with fresh water flowing through it. They can continue on for miles and miles underground with occasional rocky cave like openings. There isn’t much in the way of wildlife down here, but cenote diving makes up for that with the interesting rock formations and effects from the light that you get from diving in a dark cave. This was my first time diving in a cenote and I was very impressed! What you see in the top of the frame is the surface of the water sending light ripples down into the water below.

Under the Hood

An experiment in shooting wide. I love the feeling I can get out of my wide angle lens and have probably abused it at times. I try to not use it to “get it all in the shot” but instead to create perspective. I like the way the distorted effect here made the angles of this car even more dramatic.

Ice Study

The cold harsh waters of the Algoma Wisconsin Harbor in winter. The broken ice chunks were like little icebergs floating around the protected area of the harbor. Certainly not a body of water you wanted to take a swim in.

Dead Tree Shoot

This dead tree at Squaw Valley marks a shoot and rock garden area off of KT-22. It is an imposing tree as you are approaching it, which is appropriate as so is the entrance to the shoot and surrounding area. There are lots of granite rocks to hit if you aren’t careful, but the snow below makes it all worth it.

Foggy Night

Milwaukee at night. This night was particularly cold with some very low cloud cover. I love the top of 100 East Wisconsin in the background, the fog hanging over the lights on the top adds a very spooky feel to this already cold and still winter night.

Just a Bird and a Sunset

This big fella was hanging out on the Pismo Beach Pier as I was walking by. He didn’t seem to notice me, but I’m pretty sure he was nonchalantly looking for a hand out. I quickly snapped his photo before he expected too much of me and went about my business
