Feelin’ Crabby

I recently took a short kayak trip on a river that emptied into the Caribbean Sea at Tres Rios in Mexico. After the trip towards the ocean our guide asked everyone if they saw all of the crabs and other wildlife on the way down. I did not. On the way back I did not make the same mistake. These guys were everywhere once you started looking! They were a little shy, but this ones was either vain enough or dumb enough to let me get pretty close to him for a picture.

Soaring Sunrise

We were on our way to a warm land with pristine beaches. First, we had to fly over the beautiful snow-capped mountains. I’m not sure which I like better.

Feelin’ Beachy

This restaurant that extended out onto the beach was a common sight in Playa del Carmen. To get this shot the way I wanted it I had to do a little bit of shooting from the hip, and I think I got lucky with the timing of the clouds and some of the patrons! I miss this place, with a cool and rainy week in progress here I’m ready to go back!

A Tree Between Two Roads

This tree looks lonely, it has no friends to hang out with. Instead it just has the concrete and traffic to keep it company.

Valentine Cupcakes

Sweets made by someone special just for me! How great is that? Happy Valentine’s Day!

The Goal is Within Sight!

The hike to Round Top starts by going through a wooded area. You eventually break out to where you can finally see the top of the peak, your destination for the day, off in the distance. From this point it felt pretty far away but we all knew it would be worth it! I really like the way the trail and string of skiers extends out toward the peak, reaching out for it.

High Tech Hearts

I like technology and I like candy. Here is a heart that wants a tweet, how sweet is that? Happy (early) Valentine’s Day!

Soft Corals

I live in Northern California where there are plenty of scuba diving opportunities available, only they all involve very cold water. When I go somewhere warm I try to dive whenever I can. With that in mind I made sure I took the short ferry ride from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel to get a day of diving in. I was rewarded with these beautiful soft corals.

Cenote Exit

This was the very first cenote a saw on my trip to Mexico. It just so happened to be on the property of some friends who live down there! I might have seen a few later on that were more photogenic, but this one left an impression on me and it is very unique. The bright light shining in from the entrance really contrasts with the dark deeper reaches of the cenote.

Cottage Inn

I couldn’t just drive by this old hotel in Lake Tahoe. It caught my eye. On one hand, it looks nice and cozy and well stocked with wood for the winter. On the other, it looks old fashioned and empty. I decided to extend the old fashioned look and take some artistic liberties with the processing of the photo. Hope you like it!
